Learning more about Coach Robbie

Coach Robbie Maloy has been with the club for 10 years.

We love Robbie, his interesting coaching accent, and his antics to keep parents, players and officials amused!

We asked Coach Robbie a series of questions to get to know him better.

SFC: What is your current coaching license?

RM: I have the D national license. I have been enrolled on the US  Soccer C license with the aim to complete it this year.

SFC: Have you been taking any other courses or personal coaching development courses?

RM: I have, The club sent the coaches to complete the La Liga Level 3 course a couple of years ago. It was a great course as we traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take it.
The weather was awful! I think the course was in January, just as Tulsa experienced the coldest darn temperatures! However, the event was great as all the coaches spent a lot of time together exchanging views, talking about differing philosophies and issues, etc.
I believe we all came back better coaches and in turn able to improve and develop our teams more.

SFC: What teams have you coached and currently coach?

RM: I have coached quite a few teams with Storm FC and loved every team I have been involved with, first team to coach was the 02 Girls team (later the '01G). My daughter played on this team eventually being recruited to play for East Texas Baptist.
Other teams include the '00G, 99B, '03B and currently I coach the '06G and '12B teams.
Of course, anyone reading and has a player born in these age groups please reach out!

I was the rock solid Center Back! I have played in classic league as a kid and got to play in England a few years ago...That was a cool experience.

SFC: What does being a soccer coach mean to you?

RM: It means so much! I love being with the kids and seeing their smiling faces at practice and games regardless of the score. I want to teams that I coach to become part of the Storm FC family. I feel privileged that parents trust me with their player's development and that I can teach ethics, sustainable values and ultimately watch these youngsters become great adults that we are all proud of.

SFC: What do you feel is your biggest coaching achievement?

RM: I have a few! Being a part of the Super Y Nationals was an absolutely exceptional experience. Qualifying for the NPL Nationals and winning our conference. Being allowed the opportunity to be part of the coaching staff at the National Amputee Soccer team.

SFC: Outside of soccer what hobbies do you have?

RM: I like biking, well I did like it until I found a better and easier hobby of crashing when biking! Camping with my family and archery with my son.

SFC: Who's your team?

RM: Only one team...Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League. Just glad they no longer have Mourinho, we may just win the league now.

SFC: LOL, picking myself up from the floor!

SFC: Why Storm FC?

RM: That's an easy question, values, integrity, a caring about our families and players. Also that we are the underdogs that over the years of careful development are now competing in the big club's leagues. The club works super hard to offer our players pathways, meaningful competition, and opportunities.

I'm so lucky to get the opportunity to work and teach work ethics to our younger generation.

SFC: What's the best game you've ever witnessed?

RM: I got to watch Fulham v Ipswich Town and loved it. What an atmosphere at Craven Cottage. Wasn't just the game but also the walk to the stadium. I felt like a local walking through the streets to the, what an atmosphere.

SFC: If you were able to have a pick of two teams playing each other to watch who would they be?

RM: Spurs of course against Nottingham Forest. Spurs is my club, but the history of Forest, their pedigree would be awesome to see them play. and it has a ring of old to it. Spurs v Forest!

Robbie thank you for letting us learn a little more about you. Good luck with the 12/13 Boys and 06/07 Girls. We appreciate all the years and continual years with the club and positively impacting young lives.

We aim to have a coach every couple of weeks for you to learn more about.
